On Friday 18 September, the All Hallows’ School community came together in gratitude, joy and celebration to mark All Hallows’ Mercy Day and the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy.
Traditionally held each year on 24 September, the Feast of Our Lady of Mercy is one of the most significant occasions in the Mercy tradition. It commemorates Catherine McAuley’s opening of the House of Mercy on Baggot Street in Dublin in 1827, marking the beginning of the Mercy story.
Coming Together in Gratitude at the Mercy Day Mass
The day began with Mass in Loretto Hall and the All Hallows’ Chapel, where students, staff and Sisters of Mercy gathered in prayer and reflection. Together, our community celebrated Mary’s compassionate care for all people and renewed our commitment to living the Mercy values of compassion, justice, integrity, respect, service and joy each day.
Building Belonging through House Picnics
Following Mass, students enjoyed House picnics across the campus, sharing food, friendship and community spirit. The picnics provided an opportunity to gather as a House, strengthen connections across year levels and build excitement ahead of the House Choir Competition.
Celebrating Spirit and Sisterhood at the House Choir Competition
The festivities continued in Loretto Hall for the much-anticipated House Choir Competition. After weeks of rehearsals, choreography and preparation, students took to the stage to showcase their talents and House pride.
Congratulations to Tighe House for taking home the Irene Sloan House Choir Shield.
As we celebrate 165 years of All Hallows’ School, Mercy Day reminds us of the ways in which Catherine McAuley’s enduring legacy continues to shape and inspire our community. Guided by her example, we carry the Mercy story forward through lives of compassion, courage and service to others.
