During the Term 2 holidays, many students embraced the opportunity to learn, connect and explore through two international experiences. From the historic streets of England and Ireland to the snow-covered mountains of Queenstown, New Zealand, students strengthened their friendships, deepened their understanding of the world, and created memories that will stay with them for years to come.
UK & Ireland | ‘The Hero’s Journey’
28 students from Years 10 to 12 embarked on ‘The Hero’s Journey’, an enriching educational tour through England and Ireland with Student Horizons.
The adventure began in London, where students visited iconic landmarks from the Tower of London to the Churchill War Rooms. From there, the group travelled to Oxford, Stonehenge and Bath, spending time immersed in the rich Roman and Georgian history of the region before visiting Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
A particularly meaningful highlight was the group’s time in Dublin, where they were joined by our Principal, Catherine O’Kane, for a visit to the Mercy International Centre on Baggot Street. Learning about Catherine McAuley’s life and legacy in the place where the Sisters of Mercy began was a powerful experience, deepening students’ understanding of the Mercy values that continue to guide our school community today.
The tour offered students the opportunity to experience history beyond the classroom, bringing to life places and stories they had previously encountered in their studies.
Through this experience, students gained valuable insights into the world around them while developing independence, confidence and a broader global perspective.
Year 12 Ski Trip
For some of our Year 12 students, Queenstown, New Zealand, became the backdrop for 5 unforgettable days of adventure, skiing at Coronet Peak and The Remarkables.
“For many of us it was our first time skiing or even seeing snow, while others were rather experienced skiers, but everyone enjoyed themselves together, helping each other learn and improve our skills,” said Anna T.
Ruby K. shared that “arriving at the airport to the scene of 120 AHS Senior Jerseys was a sight to behold. Spending time on the slopes with my cohort was so much fun and brought us closer together”.
Away from the slopes, students explored Queenstown and took in the breathtaking scenery of the surrounding lakes and mountains.
For Anna T, highlights included “our bowling night, all the amazing sunset and sunrise views of the mountains and simply spending time together with our grade, making and strengthening connections”.
Ruby K said that one of the most memorable parts of the trip was “sitting at dinner each evening hearing everyone’s stories and adventures from the day”.
The experience provided opportunities for students to build resilience, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories as they approach the final stages of their All Hallows’ journey.
Through our tours program, students are encouraged to challenge themselves, embrace new perspectives and build meaningful connections.
