We are thrilled to announce that our 2025 Whole School Project, Project THREADS, has raised an incredible $55,000 to support two important initiatives:
- $30,000 for Mercy Works’ Livelihoods Project in Kiunga, Papua New Guinea
- $25,000 for the THREAD program at Mater Hospital
Mercy Works Livelihoods Project in Kiunga, PNG
Mercy Works’ Livelihoods Project aims to improve living standards for West Papuan refugees and local communities through sustainable livelihoods, agriculture, water, sanitation, hygiene, and education.
In Term 3, students heard from Sr Sally Bradley (Executive Director, Mercy Works) at a Whole School Assembly about the impact of these programs.
THREAD at Mater Hospital
For nearly four years, THREAD has been offering support to young people in Queensland facing substance addiction.
This year’s funds will help transform the balcony area at Clarence Court Apartments into a therapeutic wellness space. Planned upgrades include weatherproofing, privacy screening, a BBQ area, seating, and an artwork space.
In Term 4, our School Captains and House Captains visited the Mater THREAD unit to assist volunteer artist Hue Nguyen in creating a beautiful mural for the courtyard.
These upgrades will create a calming space that supports healing and growth for young people for years to come.
Cheque Presentation
The cheques were presented by our 2025 School Captains during the Year 12 Final Assembly. During the assembly, we received a heartfelt video message from Sr Sally Bradley (Executive Director, Mercy Works) expressing gratitude for our support.
We also heard from Kimmy Hoang (Day Program Coordinator and Senior Occupational Therapist) and Kim Finlay (ADAWS Program Coordinator and Clinical Nurse Consultant) about the impact of our donation and involvement.
Thank You!
Our community has generously given their time, money, and creativity to support these initiatives. From baking and selling tickets to dressing up for themed days like Galentine’s Day and PJ Day, everyone embraced the spirit of Project THREADS.
Thank you everyone who has contributed to our fundraising efforts in 2025. We also greatly appreciate the significant contributions of the P&F and the Past Pupils Association.
Project THREADS has woven two Mercy initiatives together, bringing hope and opportunity to two very different communities in need.
