On Friday, 9 May 2025, 122 All Hallows’ students took part in the Cancer Council’s Ponytail Project, which raises awareness and money for the Cancer Council, and donations of hair for wigs for people going through hair loss.
Dean of Mission, Mrs Claire Easton, supported the students in their fundraising goal, which started at $17,000.
“Each year, our students select a charity they would like to raise money for; this year, they selected the Ponytail Project.
“We had a very short turnaround time to get our campaign underway, but in true AHS spirit, the students have outdone themselves. Our original fundraising goal has been eclipsed by our final result of almost $70,000. I could not be prouder of the students and what they have achieved.”
In one way or another, cancer touches all our lives. For Madi Kruse, Year 12, she wanted to ‘Rock the Chop’ to honour two incredible women in her life.
“My best friend’s mum, who was like a second mum to me, sadly passed away last May after cancer returned. It was heartbreaking for all of us, especially my best friend. My Godmother also battled cancer multiple times and showed incredible strength. She beat it each time, but passed away a few years later. These women taught me so much and touched everyone they met. I'm cutting off 20cm of my hair and raising money to support those fighting cancer, because no one should have to face it alone.”
Lucy Drum in Year 9 decided to take part as she felt it was a wonderful way she could make a small difference in somebody else’s life.
“I know a few people who have battled cancer, some who are no longer with us. They have been through - and went through - so much, and I want them to know that they are supported and loved by many people. If donating my hair can give anyone a little glimmer of hope, then I think that’s the best thing it’ll ever do!
Participation in the fundraiser can be seen right across the school. Year 5 student, Rosie Donnelly, decided to donate her hair in support of her Grandma who went through breast cancer last year.
“I hope what we are doing today will help people going through cancer, we want them to know we are thinking of them,” Rosie said.
All Hallows’ would like to thank all the families and friends who supported the students and who gave so generously.
