During the Term 3 holidays, fifteen All Hallows’ language students embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to Moorea, a beautiful island off Tahiti in French Polynesia. Accompanied by our two dedicated French teachers, eight Year 11 and seven Year 10 students immersed themselves in the language, culture, and natural beauty of Tahiti over ten days.

“‘C’est ouf!’  was the phrase that echoed through our group as we explored the vibrant heart of Moorea (meaning ‘it’s crazy!’),” said Year 11 student, Charlotte M.

If you’d told me before the trip that I’d be dancing barefoot in a guesthouse with a flower crown on my head and a belly full of salade tahitienne au poisson cru et lait de coco (raw fish salad), I might’ve said, ‘C’est ouf!’”

The students explored Moorea’s lush landscapes, tasted fresh pineapple juice at a local factory, and bravely connected with French peers at Le Lycée Agricol. A highlight was the visit to a motu— a tiny coral island—where students learned about reef ecosystems, played language games under the sun, and swam in crystal-clear waters.

Throughout the tour, students didn’t just learn French; they lived it. From shy greetings to confident conversations, they embraced every opportunity to grow in language and spirit. The warmth of the local people, the beauty of the island, and the depth of cultural exchange left a lasting impact.

Charlotte M shares this message to any students considering joining a tour in the future: “Say ‘oui’! Pack the sunscreen, learn the phrases, and go! You will return with stories, souvenirs, and friendships that stick for a lifetime.”

Opportunities like the French language tour to Tahiti reflect All Hallows’ School’s commitment to offering rich and diverse learning experiences beyond the classroom. Through our tours program, students not only strengthen their academic skills, but also gain meaningful insights into diverse cultures and global perspectives. These experiences foster personal growth, build intercultural understanding, and prepare our students to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our teachers, hosts, and organisers for making this tour possible.
