What is LMYELN?
The Lord Mayor's Youth Environmental Leadership Network (LMYELN) is a program that empowers students to drive positive change in their school community, while developing skills in project management, communication, and leadership.
Our LMYELN Representatives
Our Year 10 representatives—Jess D, Emma B, and Miranda H— are members of our Eco Justice Group, one of the groups offered as part of our Mercy Action program. They led a project to reduce pollution in our Dodge Lane Carpark.
Jess, Emma, and Miranda measured carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up using a portable gas monitor. The data showed that CO₂ levels were significantly higher when cars were idling.
To address this, they designed and displayed posters and produced a video to encourage visitors to switch off their engines while waiting.

Their Findings
The CO₂ levels in Dodge Lane Carpark have dropped by an incredible 9.5% since their initial measurements in Term 2.
This reduction highlights that small changes, such as turning off engines, streamlining routines, or choosing greener travel, can make a big difference.
LMYELN Graduation
In Week 5 of Term 4, our LYMELN Representatives showcased their project at Brisbane City Hall alongside other schools. They were thrilled to share their findings with the Lord Mayor, Adrian Schrinner, local councillors, teachers, staff, and fellow student leaders.
Thank you for supporting our LMYELN leaders and helping us reduce emissions by turning off your engines!
