Message from Mrs Catherine O'Kane
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are so grateful! On Thursday, 12 June, our All Hallows’ community came together with extraordinary generosity and spirit for our fourth annual Giving Day, supporting the Catherine McAuley Bursary Fund. Inspired by our 2025 theme, The Promise, we witnessed an outpouring of compassion, hope, and commitment that truly honoured the legacy of Catherine McAuley and the vision of a young girl named Josie, whose promise stirred something in each of us.
Thanks to the remarkable kindness of our donors, the tireless enthusiasm of our volunteers, and the collective efforts of our families, past pupils, students and staff, we not only reached our Giving Day goal of $215,800 but exceeded it by raising over $243,000, ensuring the funds for two life-changing bursaries. Every message shared, phone call made, and moment of support helped bring The Promise to life, reminding us once again of the power of our community to open doors and change lives.
A heartfelt thank you to Ms Sarah Rush and the Foundation Board for their dedicated service and commitment, and to Ms Lovett, our Director of Community Relations and Development, and the whole team for their vision, planning and joyful leadership. To all who contributed, whether as Match Donors, donors on the day, or as volunteers in our enthusiastic Vollies Hub, your generosity is a beacon of hope and opportunity for future All Hallows’ students.
Award for St Gertrude’s revitalisation project
I am delighted to share that our revitalised St Gertrude’s playground has been recognised with a 2025 AILA QLD Award in the Health and Education Landscapes category. Once an underutilised lawn, this open space has been thoughtfully transformed into a vibrant, multi-functional environment that supports outdoor learning, play, and wellbeing while honouring our school’s heritage and legacy.
This award for our new Year 5 and 6 playground celebrates the power of collaborative and research-informed design that places students at the centre. We are proud to have worked with Place Design Group and project partners Ashburner Francis, Bligh Tanner, Landscape Solutions, and Solutions + Co, who helped bring our vision to life. Our sincere thanks to all involved in creating this inspiring space for our youngest students.
International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS)
This week, I will travel to Philadelphia to attend and present at the 2025 International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS) Conference, the world’s largest gathering dedicated to girls’ education.
It is an honour to also share that I have been appointed to the ICGS Board of Directors, effective 1 July, which presents an exciting opportunity to contribute to global leadership in girls’ education and to bring valuable insights back to All Hallows’ to benefit our students and staff.

New York Reunion
While in the United States, I am also delighted to be hosting a special reunion event in New York City for our alumnae living in the USA. This evening of recollection and reconnection with our past pupils promises to be a joyful celebration of shared memories of the AHSisterhood and the spirit of Mercy. It is especially meaningful to gather with our overseas past pupils in this centenary year of the All Hallows’ Past Pupils’ Association, a milestone that honours a century of connection, community, and contribution by our alumnae both near and far. I look forward to sharing news of our school’s present and future while celebrating the legacy of those whose All Hallows’ journey continues to shape their lives.
While I am away, Ms Carolyn Liddy will be Acting Principal and Mr Scott Adamson will be Acting Deputy Principal. I will return to work on Monday, 7 July.
Holiday camps and trips
Over the holiday break, some students and staff will participate in our extensive tours program, which includes a group of Year 12 students who will brave the cooler temperatures on the annual ski trip to Queenstown, as well as students travelling on the Cape York Immersion tour and the Netball and Volleyball tour to New Zealand. We pray for a safe journey for our students and staff.
These inspiring and memorable opportunities are only possible due to the generosity of our staff who forgo time with their own families for the benefit of our students. Their generosity is truly appreciated, and we offer a special thanks to the following staff for their service and dedication:
Cape York Immersion: Mr Lane and Ms Vallely.
Netball and Volleyball Tour: Mr Bright, Ms Latter and Mrs Wasley.
Queenstown Ski Trip: Ms Fletcher and Ms Jackson (tour leaders), Mr Adamson, Ms Andrews, Ms Crowther, Ms Gunn, Mr James, Ms Rafferty, Mr Simmons-Bliss, Ms Teubler, Ms Walls, Mr Wellington and Ms Xu.
Rowing Camp: Mr Brown (camp leader), Ms Lally and Mr Russell.
“Peace be with you all.”
As we draw to a close a vibrant and event-filled Term 2, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our entire community for the energy, creativity, and commitment that have made this term so rich in learning and connection.
As we approach the end of the semester, I’ve been reflecting on the first words of Pope Leo XIV upon his election as Pope: “Peace be with you all”. These words are a reminder that even in our busiest times, it is vital to consciously seek out peace so that we can be peace finders and peace makers.
As a Catholic Mercy community, we understand that peace is not merely the absence of conflict; it is a way of being in relationship with one another. Peace is cultivated through the quality of our relationships and includes the courageous work of restoring and healing relationships. Indeed, peace-making is essential for fostering a hopeful and compassionate community.
In the weeks of the term break, may we each carry peace within, offer it generously, and hold in prayer the longing for peace in our world.
For all members of our school community, I wish you a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and every blessing until we are reunited with renewed energy in Term 3.
