Message from Mrs Catherine O'Kane
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we hold the Medeiros-Hodge family close in our hearts. Your compassion has been a source of strength and comfort as we continue to support our students, staff and community at this sad and difficult time.
I have taken great comfort in the many messages of prayer and support that we have received and our whole community is being held in the loving embrace of the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Partners and so many people near and far. May we continue to walk gently with one another, upholding each other in compassion and grace in the days ahead.
Educating Girls, Transforming Futures – A Global Perspective
During the recent term break, I was privileged to travel to the United States, where I participated in a series of events that underscored the global strength and shared vision of Mercy education and girls’ schooling.
In Philadelphia, I met with Sr Lisa Griffith rsm, Executive Director of Mercy Education of the Americas, and members of her leadership team. We explored ways to strengthen collaboration between Mercy schools across the Americas and Australia. We discussed opportunities for shared formation, student mission experiences, and leadership development opportunities for students and staff. I look forward to bringing this partnership to life in the years to come.
I also attended my first Board meeting as a Director of the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS). This was followed by the ICGS Annual Conference, where over 700 educators gathered to share research and innovation in girls’ schools. All Hallows’ was honoured to be represented through two presentations: my own session on collaborative strategic leadership, and an outstanding presentation by staff member Ms Crawford on her action research into how our students are using AI to enhance their learning.
I then travelled to New York to host the All Hallows’ Past Pupils’ Association’s first-ever New York City reunion, as part of the Association’s centenary celebrations. It was a joyful gathering that reaffirmed the global reach and enduring spirit of All Hallows’. I also had the privilege of visiting Marymount School of New York, where past pupil Tamara Nozik (O’Callaghan, AHS 2006) is Director of Music.
Each of these experiences offered a meaningful reminder of the enduring importance of our shared Mercy mission. I return with a deep sense of gratitude for our community and the strength that comes from walking together in hope, purpose, and compassion to bring Catherine McAuley’s vision for the education of women to make the world a more just place a reality.
Celebrating 100 Years of our Past Pupils’ Association
Across this year, we are celebrating the centenary of our Past Pupils’ Association and the vibrant network of connection, service, and sisterhood that has been part of our school for 100 years. On Sunday, over 200 past pupils from across the decades gathered at The Officer’s Mess at New Farm to commemorate this extraordinary milestone.
It was a joyful and moving occasion, filled with memories, laughter, and a deep sense of shared history, where thanks were given for all those who have gone before us and on whose shoulders we stand today. I extend my sincere thanks to Past Pupils’ Association President Ms Tron Fisher, the Association’s Executive, Mrs Nicki Dalton, Ms Kate Parry, and Ms Libby Oberg, as well as the dedicated Centenary Committee, and our Past Pupils’ Liaison Ms Maree Nugent, whose combined efforts made this very special event such a resounding success.
Father Daughter Dinner
Tomorrow night’s annual Father Daughter Dinner, which celebrates the important role of fathers and father figures in your daughter’s life, is always a highly anticipated event. The car that is the prize of the P&F’s annual car raffle will be on display, and there are a few other surprises in store on the night. It is always a joyous event that creates memories that last a lifetime.
Thank you to our hard-working P&F Executive for their organisation of this cherished event, to the many parents who have given their time in service to its organisation, and to Mr Matt Dunn, who is the MC for the evening.
Emily Deldot Memorial Hockey Game
This Sunday, 27 July, our community will gather for the annual Emily Deldot Memorial Game, held at 10:40am at Easts Hockey Club.
Emily, a cherished member of the Class of 2019 and proud Gorry Goldstar, played hockey for both All Hallows’ School and Easts Hockey. Since Emily’s passing in 2017, this special game has honoured her memory. We warmly invite all members of the AHS community to join us in supporting the Deldot family. Further details are available in the Sport section of this newsletter.
Conclusion
In a week where our community has drawn especially close, this prayer may be of comfort to you and your family in the coming days as we continue to hold the Medeiros-Hodge family and all in our community in our hearts:
God of Compassion and Strength,
In our sorrow, we turn to you with open hearts.
Comfort us with the gentle reassurance of your presence
And surround Stella’s family with love and tenderness.
May they feel the strength of our prayers
And the embrace of a community that walks beside them.
Guide us as a Mercy community to be a source of light to one another,
Offering care, kindness, and hope in each small act.
Help us to carry one another through difficult days,
Embraced by your love and mercy.
We pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
May God bless our All Hallows’ community in the coming weeks.
